On March 31 2007, for one hour, Sydney made a powerful statement about the greatest contributor to global warming – coal-fired electricity – by turning off its lights. Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over 2,100 businesses switched off, leading to a 10.2% energy reduction across the city. What began as one city taking a stand against global warming caught the attention of the world.
On this March 29 2008, 24 global cities will participate in Earth Hour 2008 from 8pm to 9pm. Earth Hour is the highlight of a major campaign to encourage businesses, communities and individuals and organizations to take the simple steps needed to cut their emissions on an ongoing basis. It is about simple changes that will collectively make a difference.
Therefore, the Youth Advisory Centre of Penang Family Planning Association invites you to join us to make a stand to help reduce GLOBAL WARMING as we realised the need for action on this environment problem. So please switch off your electricity from 8pm-9pm on 29th March 2008, which is tomorrow! Its simple!! By doing that, you are actually making a great impact on reducing global warming. Enjoy the stars on that night, go for a night walk or plan something cool with your friends. Have a candlelight dinner with your loved ones perhaps? Join us in this cause for a better environment and better tomorrow. We hope that at least 5% of electricity in our beloved Penang could be switched off. We also hope that Penang government can show their support in this campaign. Imagine if your hometown in darkness for one hour. Haha! Remember, you can make a change!!
My friends, it’s just less then 28hours from now. Please help me to spread this message to every person, every company, every organization you know by talking face-to-face, phone calls, sms-es, e-mails, blogs, friendster, facebook, myspace etc. Join this global cause with other big cities such as Aalborg, Aarhus, Adelaide, Atlanta, Bangkok, Brisbane, Canberra, Chicago, Christchurch, Copenhagen, Darwin, Dublin, Hobart, Manila, Melbourne, Montreal, Odense, Ottawa, Perth, Phoenix, San Francisco, Suva, Sydney, Tel Aviv, Toronto and Vancouver. You can also sign up for Earth Hour by visiting http://www.earthhour.org/user/SLC6.
